Dr Jochen Ruckstuhl, Orthopaedic Surgeon (his first visit to the Solomons) and Dr. Hermann Oberli participated as faculty members for the PIOA Trauma Module, in February 2014. See news item on 3 Apr 2015.

Transports

Container transport for collected goods

Arrival of a container transport in Honiara in February 2014.

Equipment

A portable X-Ray machine, donated by Kantonsspital Herisau, was checked and installed. It is the only such machine for the National Referral Hospital in Honiara.

Introduction of new techniques

SIGN Fracture Care International, a charitable organisation in the USA provided the demonstration equipment set for practical exercises, using plastic bones (Synbone) to teach and learn how to operate fractures of long bones applying simple and affordable technology.

Exchange

cand. med. Marco Sieber, University of Berne, spent two months as medical student with the Orthopaedic Department in Honiara. His report will be published shortly in SAEZ.
